A group of militants attacked the Indian consulate in western Herat province of Afghanistan early Friday morning.
Sediq Sediq, spokesman for the interior ministry of Afghanistan said all attackers were killed during clashes with the Afghan security forces.
Sediqi further added that all civilians were rescued from the building where the assailant militants had taken position to attack the Indian consulate.
He did not disclose further information regarding the Afghan forces casualties following the clashes.
In the meantime, deputy interior minister for security, Gen. Ayub Salangi said four militants were killed during the clashes and two Afghan security forces were slightly injured.
This comes as local officials earlier said that the attack was carried out by three militants armed with machine and rocket launchers.
Syed Akbaruddin, spokesman for the External Affairs of India confirmed that all Indian diplomats are safe and Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh is monitoring the situation.
